Destination Australian Native Wedding

I am always so honoured when friends and family ask me to create their flowers for their special day. Friends Zoe and Simon, planned a beautiful destination wedding down the coast at Gerringong for their special wedding day.

Zoe wanted the Australian Native look and feel to match the stunning setting they had for the wedding ceremony. What we created was a mix of white and lemon coloured flowers which were used through out the entire day. The mix of flowers used through out Zoe's wedding bouquet was grevillea, freesias, kangaroo paw, buddleia, flannel flowers and silver eucalyptus gum foliage. We ribboned off the ends with hessian material, to tie in the rustic country scenery.

The happy couple were very lucky and came across their ceremony location by chance. It was an amazing view, over looking all of Gerringong on a private property.

The signing table had a cluster of vintage jars, filled with billy buttons in one jar, wattle in another, white flannel flowers in another. There was a maiden hair fern incorporated to give the table a touch of green.

For the reception we wanted to bring the country and Australian-a feel to the venue. We grouped bundles of ivy and eucalyptus gum, with a mix of bouvardia, grevillea and kangaroo paw. We then hung these bunches off each light fitting. It matched the hand made bunting that was hung from rigging points within the room. There was also country rustic vintage jars placed on tables through out the room, these jars were filled with a mix of  yellow and white natives.

Zoe's words…."Rheannon created the most beautiful arrangements for our wedding day, I requested Australian native earthy tones and she made our vision come to life. Loved her work!"

Valentine’s Day Is Everyday!!!

Love Exists Another 364 Days Of The Year.

I know being a florist, I shouldn't say this…. Valentines Day, is so commercialized. It's the day that everyone races out and spends a fortune on red roses. When really most women DON'T EVEN REALLY LIKE RED ROSES!!! Sorry to any men who are reading this.  Honestly why don't  you try buying  your partners favourite flower? Instead of the same dozen red roses.  If you take a note out of my florist book (I'm female by the way). Do something different next year and watch the response you get. TRUST ME!!!

I bet  you don't even know why you give red roses on valentines day? I have been researching it and there are all different theories / stories. Some of the things I have been reading shows that its actually more of a brutal story rather than romantic…..

What I do know, is the build up and the hours and hours of work that goes into one day is exhausting. If you treated your loved ones everyday, the way you do on valentines day, there would be so much more love in the air and less negative energy. I know we would all be very broke if that was the case…. Why not surprise a friend or your partner with a bunch of flowers, their favourite lollies or even their favourite bottle of wine. For absolutely NO REASON AT ALL, just because you love them!!!!

Yet people forget that the most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. "LOVE YOURSELF FIRST & EVERYTHING ELSE FALLS INTO LINE" - Lucille Ball". Be happy within you and love the person who you are and you will make everyday a happy valentines day for YOU!!!.

I know Im giving you all the honest truth but the thing is….. We all need to wake up to ourselves and we don't always have to "KEEP UP WITH THE JONES" .  Rheannon Lee xx

Flower Crowns, The Truth Behind Them….

I Need To Explain, How These Work!!!

Its most girls dreams to wake  up every morning and wear a flower crown for the day. Ok…. thats my dream!!!
Flower crowns look so beautiful, elegant and can make you feel like a princess. They are worn on wedding days, for hens parties, and of course the races.  We can always make what you need.  What we have to do to construct them is, individually wire every leaf, berry, flower, succulent, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!!!!

After you have wired everything (the correct way to make it sturdy and strong), you need to wrap the floral material around each piece of wire.  (This is after you have lost the feeling in your finger tips!!!)

Please please PLEASE….. Don't go on to "HOW TO DIY FLOWER CROWN VIDEOS" and try and get the advice to CABLE TIE the flowers together. As I heard a horror story. A bride was sitting at her hen's lunch, the flower crown fell to pieces, throughout the entire lunch. So please don't take that VERY STUPID  advice.

If you want a big, beautiful, well constructed halo. Get a professional florist to put it together for you. What us florists need you to understand, it can take up to over an hour to make. Sometimes even longer depending on the style of design you are after.  So if you give us enough notice we can make it happen. So please don't call the morning of your event,  thinking one can be magically put together. (You would be surprised how many phone calls we do receive.)

I absolutely LOVE making big, full and lush flower crowns. Having a big focal piece on the crown (like a peony, orchid or even a garden rose), can give it that extra special look.  I must admit seeing little flower girls, all dressed up. Then you add there tiny little flower crown as an angelic halo, they just look too cute!!! Even though they take a long time to make.  I am a sucker and I love making them for myself.

Lucky thing for me is.... My husband is into horse racing, so I love spring carnival time, flower crowns and bubbles.

How To Say Good bye…

Saying Goodbye With Flowers & A Personal Touch….

Floristry can be all about big events, weddings and Happy Birthdays. Of course there are funerals too.I really do enjoy making funeral pieces. As the family is trusting me to make something so special for their day to say GOODBYE.

I always feel so honoured when people ask me, if I will create the flowers for their loved ones. Even though it is a sad time, it is a time to remember their happy face, the joy they brought to your life and the fun you had together.

When I speak to the family members about what their angels personality was like. I find out as much as I can. From who they were as a person, what colours they liked and what sort of environment they enjoyed.  As I like to create pieces that express exactly who they were.

I have worked for other businesses in the past, watching them mass produce casket covers one by one. Just like there was no love and that it was just another job.  After seeing that with my own eyes, I swore to myself I would NEVER, EVER do that to a family. As every person that has passed is just so special, they too need a special send off, with happy memories for the families.

Using a certain flower, scent, colour or even adding a personal belonging, is something special
for the family to see.  Using a scent (say Gardenia's for example), every time you smelt that flower you could be reminded of that person. Knowing they are looking down on you, or if your lucky enough you could maybe feel their precence at that very moment.

Creating casket covers for people whom I have known and loved, has always been tough. When making these pieces, I know they wouldn't want me to be upset. The crazy thing is, something comes over me and I am able to create something more AMAZING than I first invisioned. People ask me.... How can I possibly do it? The strength within you is stronger than you think!!!

I know I can make a sad day just that little bit extra special for you and your family. So if you would like me make something amazing for you, just give me a call and I would be more than happy too help.  Rheannon Lee xx

White Floating Pool Arrangement For A White Wedding….

Now this is a wedding I won't ever forget!!!

bride, summer wedding, white wedding, eastern suburbs wedding, pool flowers, white flowers, white roses, rheannon lee floral designs, ocean view wedding, sydney florist, bellevue hillComing up with new and exciting ideas for brides is something I love to do. When I was asked if I could create a floral piece to fill a large pool, the challenge was on.  Off I went and the researching began, I was a woman on a mission. The design had to be as large as two trestle tables, covered in all white flowers and also have candles, that lit up the arrangement during the evening.

Once I had the base, we had to attach all the flower materials to it, to keep it together and sturdy. Then the 5 hour process of soaking the oasis, then designing the flowers all over this MASSIVE frame evenly. Once finished, we then had to transport it to the eastern suburbs for the wedding. We got it there, but then…… We had to get it to the swimming pool!!! Five of us carried it in two halves and assembled it when it was in the pool. Once it was in, all the final touches were made.  Thank goodness it was a hot day for a swim, but to our cold surprise the pool heater hadn't been turned on.

Not knowing at the time, the father of the bride was filming us as it was going in the water. It was CRUNCH TIME and this had to work. As  you can see from my excitement in the video, it all came together and there was much relief and laughs afterwards.

All of the house was filled with white beautiful flower arrangements. The entire house looked elegant, sophisticated and had a very Vogue, white Hampton’s feel to it.

The bridesmaids had perfect soft pink rose dome shaped bouquets. The bride had  GORGEOUS white calla lilies, with a beautiful trailing white satin ribbon wrapped around the stems.

To my surprise, the wedding featured in "Bride to Be - Special Cakes edition". After all the hard work on this big event, it was so rewarding seeing  my work printed in such a popular wedding magazine over two pages.  Hope you enjoyed the video, bye for now. Rheannon Lee xx
